Another variation of a Phishing attack, sometimes called Pharming, has been reported by some of our customers. This attack directs a user to a fraudulent website that asks for a significant amount of information under the guise of a Security Confirmation.
Regardless of the method used to reach Guaranty Bank’s online banking website, this attack forces your browser to go to the fraudulent site. Typically this issue is created as a result of a malicious program being installed on your computer which compromises the network configuration.
To protect against this kind of attack, it is recommended to have anti-virus and anti-spyware software running on your computer and should be kept current. Likewise, ensure that all security updates for your operating system (Windows, Mac, etc…) are properly applied. The combination of these will help diagnose and prevent Pharming attacks from occurring to you, but do not guarantee that your computer could not be compromised. Guaranty Bank will never ask you to input your credit card number, verification number and PIN on a website and you should treat such instances as a fraudulent website and should contact Guaranty Bank immediately.
Recently, you may have been directed to a fraudulent website when trying to access online banking which appears to be hosted by Guaranty Bank. This fraudulent website asks you to login and provide your credit card number, verification number, and PIN. We will never ask you for this information. Guaranty Bank does not host this web site. If you completed the form on this website and provided your log-in information, call us IMMEDIATELY at 1-800-288-8822. If you do not bank with Guaranty Bank, but responded to the web site, by logging in your bank's information, notify your financial institution immediately.
